The Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge
The Lieutenant Governor’s Entrepreneurship Challenge is coming! You can learn more about the LGEC here: http://www.kylgec.com/.
The JA Startup program is a partnership between EnterpriseCorp and Junior Achievement of Kentuckiana, along with local entrepreneurs and educators, to bring entrepreneurship in to high school classrooms in the Louisville region. Area students have the opportunity start their own companies, submit business plans, and be selected to compete in a regional pitch competition (complete with “shark” investors) for cash prizes.
For a 7 or 10 week period during the fall or spring semester, volunteer entrepreneurs and members of the business academy are paired with teachers to lead high school students through either the JA Be Entrepreneurial or JA Company curriculum. The students learn basic principles of starting a business and have an opportunity to develop their own business plans for a startup. These startup teams can then submit their plans to the JA Startup regional competition. The top five team submissions are selected to compete in a “Shark Tank” style pitch competition held each spring. Local entrepreneurs serve as “sharks” and select the winning team.
